Since the celebrations of April 25, 2023 at Dean Cemetery – in the presence of the Italian-Scottish councilor Katrina Faccenda, and Hilary Mackenzie, cousin of Captain Mack – this celebration has represented an opportunity to create bridges of memory between Scotland and Italy, in reference to the partisans of Scottish origin who contributed to the Liberation Struggle from Nazi-fascism.
Thus, once again, the celebrations of April 25 took place with a private visit to Dean Cemetery, with Hilary Mackenzie and a delegation from ANPI Scotland, and then participated in the celebrations at the Nelson Mandela Hall of the City of Edinburgh, in the presence of thirty Italians and Scots.
Present, a delegation from Stand Up To Racism Scotland, who enthusiastically joined those present in singing Bella Ciao.
During the afternoon, the stories of 6 partisans and British soldiers of Scottish origin were told; in addition to that of Captain Mack, the vicissitudes of these men and women who chose to fight fascism where it was born are in fact diverse and fascinating. Among all, the figure of Carlo Carini, recently remembered by the ANPI Uk in Arbroath, his hometown, on the eightieth anniversary of his sacrifice.
