The Holocaust Memorial Day is celebrated every year on 27th January, on the anniversary of the liberation of the concentration and extermination camps at Auschwitz-Birkenau in 1945.
This day is meant to commemorate the millions more people murdered through the Nazi persecution of other groups and in the more recent genocides recognised by the British government, like those in Bosnia, Cambodia, Rwanda and Sudan (Darfur).
A variety of events are available across the country and we encourage you to attend any memorial activities in your town or neighbourhood to ensure memory will never fades on such atrocities.
For those of you who cannot attend any event in person, we would like to recommend this online memorial event by Stand Up to Racism:
This year is 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. In a time when fascism is a reality again, we come together to pledge Never Again.
Speakers:
Rabbi Herschel Gluck
David Rosenberg (Jewish Socialist Group)
Weyman Bennett & Sabby Dhalu, Stand Up to Racism co-convenors
