ANPI Scotland was officially born in January 2024 with the launch of the ANPI UK membership campaign.
The founding group, initially coming from the Scottish Sardines movement and very active from November 2019 to January 2021, decided to continue that experience through local commitment with ANPI UK. The memory of that adventure remained indelible in many of us, the demonstration against Salvini and the League organised in Edinburgh in November 2019, when hundreds of Italians found themselves singing Bella Ciao in the square together with just as many young Scots, mobilised by the Stand Up To Racism Scotland movement. It was decided to find a path that would lead to the stories of Italians and Scots crossing again in the name of anti-racism and anti-fascism, and thus the idea was born to valorise the stories of the Scottish partisans, who gave a contribution to the Fight for the Liberation of Italy from Nazi-fascism.
In 2022 it was celebrated on 25 April at the Dean Cemetery, where there is a commemorative stele to remember the partisan Archibald Donald Mackenzie. From 25 April 2023, contact was made with the ANPI UK Section, and a decision was made to create a Scottish section.
